In this workshop, students will use the age-old technique of setting tesserae into a mortar bed to create their very own  "Italian Mirror".
Laurel will demonstrate how to work with millefiori to create exciting patterns and intricate designs.  Students will choose from a variety of materials including smalti, stained glass, vitreous tiles, Van Gogh Glass, 24 K Orsoni gold, gold colorati smalti, Asian gold, copper and millefiori.  The design will be set into a mortar bed, which is created using Mapei and concentrated colored pigments.   No grouting is necessary.

Safety Glasses
Long Curved Tweezers for Placing Tesserae
Mosaic Nippers, Glass Cutter and Pliers (if you have them)
Found Objects – If you like, you can incorporate found objects into your mirror.  Coins, Charms, Watch Faces or parts, shells, buttons, jewelry and stones are all wonderful design elements.
